What kind of snake do people call the "hooded snake"? Most likely, meeting this living snake - a cobra - will make an indelible impression on you. The cobra is considered a noble snake that does not attack without warning. Assembling a cobra using the modular origami technique will not only be safe, but also exciting.


This master class will show you step-by-step the assembly of the so-called spectacled snake (actually, a cobra), which has a characteristic pattern on the “hood” that resembles inverted glasses. The most important difficulty in assembling a cobra is not the assembly itself, but the formation of the final fighting appearance of the snake. Another difficulty is the production of a sufficiently large number of triangular modules. For this model, 1519 pieces were needed. Among these modules: 4 black (for eyes), approximately 1/3 white (snake's belly); the remaining modules are red (main) and various shades of yellow. Yes, be sure to read the note at the end of assembly.

Assembly of the body

The presented assembly option is a two-layer assembly. This method of connecting modules allows you to assemble a different pattern on each side. In this case, the cobra's belly is assembled mainly from white modules. And the back is assembled from colored modules: red and various shades of yellow. Please note that the modules of the bottom layer (white) lie on the long side, and the modules of the top layer (color) lie on the short side.

The number of modules in the bottom row is 4, and in the top row – 5. I will call this design “one double row”.

Let's assemble the second double row. Since this version of the modular snake does not have any special pattern on the body, the color of the colored modules is selected randomly (with a predominance of red).

Tail

If one double row of the body contains 9 modules (4 white + 5 colored), then the first double row of the tail will contain 7 modules (3 white + 4 colored). The following photo shows the outermost modules of the first row of the tail being put on...

Cobra head and hood

The “hood” of the cobra is perceived as a head, especially since the spectacled snake has a pattern on its neck that shrinks, like glasses on its eyes. In nature, this pattern is capable of misleading an enemy attacking from behind. So, the “hood” is wider than the body, so we will begin to gradually increase the number of modules in double rows. If one double row of the body contains 9 modules (4 white + 5 colored), then the first double row of the hood will contain 11 modules (5 white + 6 colored). First install 5 white modules:

Next: 3rd row – 15 modules (7 + 8); 4th row – 17 modules (8 + 9). Starting from the 5th row, we lay out the characteristic pattern of a spectacled snake. Notice the two white modules in the center of the color row. 5th row – 19 modules (9 + 10).


Yes, on the other side you can also use colored modules to assemble stripes. In this version modular cobra Only one such strip has been collected.

Rows 6 to 9 are assembled according to the pattern - 21-23-25-27. 10th row – 27 modules. The photo shows 9 complete rows and the beginning of the 10th row:

Rows 11 and 12 of 27 modules each. In the 12th row, the assembly of the false eye on the hood begins. The photo shows the beginning of the 13th row - 14 modules installed.


There are a total of 29 modules in the 13th row (14 + 15). Starting from the 14th row, we will begin to gradually reduce the number of modules until we reach the head. The following photos show the beginning of the 14th row (13 modules) and how the outer modules of the color side (shown in blue) are installed. Be careful!



The following photos show the assembly of the pattern on both one side and the other side of the hood until the number of modules in the double row reaches 11 (5 + 6).




The hood assembly is completed, the head assembly begins. Add another double row of 11 modules (5 + 6), then 13 modules (6 + 7) and 15 modules (7 + 8).

The next rows (final) are assembled according to the scheme 13-11-9-7-5-3.

No glue was used during the making or bending of the cobra. To prevent the modules from diverging when bending the snake, pass a thread along the entire snake. The needle is easily inserted into the gaps between the modules. Sitting step is 5-8 modules. After the cobra has been given its final appearance, the thread can be removed.

At the request of the Craftswomen, I decided to make a small Master class for my Cobra. To be honest, I didn’t want to assemble a new snake. Since a lot of new modules would be needed, I decided to disassemble the finished one and make a description of it.

In total, about 2,300 modules were used for the cobra. Of these, green - about 1200 modules (19 A4 sheets), yellow - 800 (12.5 A4 sheets), red - 146 (2.3 A4 sheets), pink - 150 (2.3 A4 sheets), black - 2 modules . I used modules sized 1/64 A4 sheet.

How to make a cobra using modular origami technique

Get ready for the snake to require a lot of modules. They should be three bright colors. The more contrasting the shades, the better. Then the snake will turn out to be incomparable.

Before you begin, prepare the following supplies:

  • 561 red modules;
  • 313 white parts;
  • 129 black;
  • some red paper for tongue;
  • decorative eyes.

The cobra is assembled in one plane. The modules are inserted with their long ends into the pockets of the modules of the next row. Once assembly is complete, the snake's body gently bends at will.

As for glue, you can glue parts partially, especially in thin places: the transition of the head to the neck, the border of the body and tail. But this is not necessary, given that the snake is a craft for interior decoration, and you will not perform complex manipulations with it.

Cobra scheme

For convenience, a diagram is presented. It consists of three parts:

  • head and neck;
  • torso;
  • tail.

Each part has its own characteristics, so pay attention to the picture. You can make a modular snake of any length by repeating the pattern as many times as desired and then moving on to the tail. Use the colors of your choice or the same ones I used.

Head

Start assembly with the snake's head. Take 1 red module and put 2 more of these on its long ends. Then 2 parts and 3. Continue adding 1 part in each subsequent row.

From the 4th row, add black triangles to the red ones. See the diagram for the drawing.

Add modules until there are 15 pieces in a row. Whites have already been added to them. Then begin to gradually reduce the number of modules from row to row until only two remain. The cobra's hood has a beautiful pattern.

To complete the head assembly, insert the module with the short side into the very first triangle. The tongue will be attached to its tip.

Neck

Smoothly move to the neck. Alternate 2 and 3 modules in a row. In a row with three triangles, two of them are red and a white one in the middle. The neck consists of 27 rows. Next, put on 2 white modules and move on to the body.

The main part of the cobra consists of identical sectors in which the pattern is repeated. Collect as many of them as you wish. I got 17 pieces. Each one goes like this:

  1. 4 red Maud;
  2. 2 red, 1 white, 2 red;
  3. 1 red, 2 white, 1 red;
  4. 1 red, 1 white, 1 black, 1 white, 1 red;
  5. 1 white, 2 black, 1 white;
  6. 1 red, 1 white, 1 black, 1 white, 1 red;
  7. 1 red, 2 white, 1 red;
  8. 2 red, 1 white, 2 red;
  9. 4 red

Before moving on to the main sector, assemble the intermediate one according to the diagram. There the pattern and number of modules are slightly different. The transition from neck to torso will be harmonious.

Tail

You have already made a cobra required length? Feel free to start working on the tail. Follow the intermediate pattern according to the diagram and reduce the number of parts for the tail.

Alternate 2 and 3 modules in a row using red and white triangles. Assemble 17 rows according to the pattern. The tip of the tail consists of 6 parts placed on top of each other.

Now that the paper cobra is almost ready, bend its body as you wish. Beautiful rings and a gracefully curved neck only decorate the snake.

Cut out a tongue from red construction paper. Glue on the eyes (special decorative ones or homemade ones).
